The word Hol Chan is a Mayan word and it means “little channel.” It is four miles from San Pedro City. It is located in the southern tip of Ambergris Caye. For those who like diving or like snorkeling and exploring marine life, Hol Chan is the place to be. It has the most amazing coral reef. Just by snorkeling, you can already see an abundant number of species which include nurse sharks and rays. These sea creatures gather near a sand bar called Skark-Ray Alley that it is a beautiful part of the marine reserves and one of the favorite places that divers go to. A fair warning to those who are going to Hol Chan is the currents here can be strong so make sure that your swimming skills are good so that you are safe. Also, when you go diving, choose a certified dive shop to supervise your adventures underwater.
